Jan Ugahi has undertaken various projects since inception. However, three major ones need special mention:
  • Protection and Rehab of street/other disadvantaged children under the aegis of Terre des Hommes Germany India Program with support from BMZ, Germany
  • Promotion of Rights of Disadvantaged Children and Empowerment of Women  from  backward class communities under the aegis of Terre des Hommes Netherlands India Program
  • CHILDLINE - Helpline for children in South Goa, under the aegis of CHILDLINE India Foundation, Mumbai,  with support from the Central Ministry of Women and Child Development

Through these projects Jan Ugahi has provided:
  • crisis intervention and rehabilitation for girls and women  victims of abuse/exploitation/other forms of violence 
  • life skills education for children outside the school systemeducation on child rights to marginalized groups of children and attempts   through child & community participation to make the rights effective

  • an ongoing campaign against child abuse/tourism related  paedophilia/trafficking
  • advocacy  to change and enforce the laws regarding protection of children, justice to children
  • socio-legal intervention in  cases of children and women victims of abuse and exploitation
  • outreach programmes & service interventions as part of children's helpline- CHILDLINE
  • counselling, legal aid, health education and support to marginalized    communities esp. children & women
  • vocational training courses and referrals for jobs to youth & women
  • remedial education classes for primary/high school students & non-formal  literacy classes for non-school going street/migrant children
  • teacher & social work training for volunteers

Status of Projects:
The projects  supported by TDH-Germany have ended after 12 years;  The CHILDLINE project  has been discontinued by us as a CHILDLINE Collaborative Organisation w.e.f. 1-10-2012, but Jan Ugahi  continues as a resource and support agency for CHILDLINE Support Organisation, Vikalp, besides taking up cases of children in need on its own as it was doing before being a partner of CHILDLINE India & Goa

A small project together with four other partners-Children's Rights in Goa, Centre for Responsible Tourism, CHILDLINE-CARITAS North Collab, CHILDLINE Support-Vikalp, is to work towards responsible tourism with the concerned stake-holders for the protection of children. This will involve creating child-friendly establishments along the coastal belt as well as forming Village Child Committees to protect children and address their other relevant issues.

The present  focus of the project supported by TDH-NL is  'Stop Child Exploitation'
The project aims at reduction of child exploitation among vulnerable communities taking into account children already exploited or at risk and vulnerable based on our previous experiences. The main focus of the project will be on Prevention, Protection and Prosecution. The selected areas are 13 slum settlements for an integrated approach where education, health and socio economic sectors will be addressed where the problem is acute. Another 18 areas selected as satellite areas for intervention where problem is less acute and in which outreach, case intervention and general monitoring of the exploitation situation will be undertaken. Further in other parts of south Goa campaign against child exploitation will be carried out with awareness sessions in schools to create awareness and elicit public support for the cause against child exploitation. The project will address physical, emotional, neglect, sexual and commercial exploitations of children.

The project will be operational in 2 villages and 29 slum settlements in six talukas- Salcete, Mormugao, Quepem, Sanguem, Canacona, Dharbandora of South Goa District directly (indicated in map at the end) and also cover whole of South Goa for the Child line (children's helpline service), and also for prevention programs. The 13 areas selected for integrated intervention programs  are those where child exploitation is acute and the 18 selected as satellite areas are those wherein child exploitation is less acute and the campaign against child exploitation, Childline outreach and case intervention work, certain cases related to violence against women and several health and social protection matters will be taken up from time to time or on a call basis. Also, in other parts of South Goa the campaign against child exploitation will be carried out along with awareness sessions in schools.  The project aims at achieving the following targets:
